I want to start off with how to judge prophetic words.
1 Corinthians 14:29
says, “Have two or three prophets speak, and have the others pass judgment.” Notice that in the Old Testament prophets were judged, but in the New Testament prophecies are judged. In
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21
Paul says, “Do not quench the Spirit, do not utterly reject prophecies, but examine everything; hold firmly to that which is good.” It’s interesting that Paul warns us to not reject prophecies, but to examine it and hold to what is good.
It’s dangerous to create a culture of infallibility. The moment you require humans to be infallible is when you get to dangerous territory.
Prophetic words have to be judged for source, accuracy, and for seasons. It’s important to know what time it is. If you get the timing wrong, you might be going out to war in a time of peace or staying home in a time of war.
Prophetic declarations often come with conditions, while others often require only faith. Sometimes the requirements for a prophetic word to come to pass are simply, “believe Me,” and sometimes it’s “believe Me with action.” Sometimes we try to make the prophetic word happen and the side effects aren’t good, like with Abraham and Hagar.
All throughout the Bible the Lord prophesied things through the prophets that came to pass much later. Sometimes prophetic words have an expiration date and sometimes they have conditions. This is why it’s important to judge prophetic words for source, accuracy, and season.
2 Chronicles 7:14, “and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble!
Humility is the only way forward. We have to find ways to love people in such extraordinary ways. We have an opportunity to demonstrate love in a way we haven’t been able before. Our task is to lead our movement through this season of intense offense and polarizing opinions. I don’t need anyone to agree with my political views, I don’t even know if I’m right. What we need is to love well and remain humble.
